General Program Overview
What is the Aviara Oaks Middle School Basketball Program? The Aviara Falcons Boys Basketball program is a competitive, athletic program that focuses on developing basketball skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership in a structured environment. Players are selected based on tryouts, and participation in practices and games is mandatory for all selected athletes.
Registration and Fees
How do I register my child for the basketball program? Registration is done online through the BGCC Athletics website. You must complete the registration form before tryouts.
What is the cost to participate? The registration fee covers uniforms, league fees, equipment, refs, coaches. Please note that this fee must be paid before your child can participate in the first practice. You will be sent a registration link along with the email that you made the team after tryouts. You’ll be sent the registration link after tryouts.
Is there financial assistance? Yes, financial assistance are available for qualifying families. If you need support, please use the sites financial aid tab to fill out a scholarship form. Please do this as soon as possible so we can process your application.
Tryouts
When are tryouts? Tryouts will be held on December 3rd at the Aviara Oaks Middle School Gym.
What are the tryout times by grade?
6th Grade: 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM
7th Grade: 4:10 PM - 5:40 PM
8th Grade: 5:50PM - 7:20 PM
What should my child bring to tryouts? Players must bring a water bottle, wear athletic clothing (basketball shoes and shorts), and arrive ready to compete. No basketballs are required, as they will be provided during tryouts. When you get to tryouts you will be checked in and receive a number
How are teams selected? Players will be evaluated on their skills, effort, attitude, and potential. Team rosters will be sent via email shortly after tryouts. Not all players will make a team, as cuts may be necessary due to space limitations.
Team Structure
What are the teams? The basketball program will have the following teams:
Gold Team: Open to all grades (6th-8th)
Silver Team: Limited to 6th and 7th graders
Blue Team: Open to all grades (6th-8th)
Yellow Team: Open to all grades (6th-8th)
How many players are on each team? Teams are capped at 10 players to ensure ample practice time and fair playing opportunities. Rosters are determined by the coaches based on tryouts.
Practice Schedule
When and where are practices held?
Gold Team (Aviara Oaks Gym):
Monday-Wednesday: 2:45 PM - 4:15 PM
Thursday: 1:45 PM - 3:15 PM
Silver Team (Aviara Oaks Gym):
Monday-Wednesday: 4:15 PM - 5:45 PM
Thursday: 3:15 PM - 4:45 PM
Blue & Yellow Teams (Bressi Ranch Boys & Girls Club Gym):
Monday-Thursday:
Blue and Yellow: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
How important is practice attendance? Attendance at practices is highly suggested as we do under stand priorities with AAU schedules but to implement strategy we do need who will be consistently at practices. Players who fail to do so may see reduced playing time. Making it to games is very important as well.
Game Schedule
When are games scheduled? Games will take place on Mondays and Thursdays, replacing practice on those days. The official game schedule will be distributed to parents and players by January 6th.
Where are games played? Home games will be held at the Aviara Oaks Middle School Gym Gym. Away games will take place at various locations throughout the league. Transportation to away games is the responsibility of the parents.
What time are games? Gold and Blue Team games are always at 4pm. Silver and Yellow games are always 5pm.
Uniforms
What uniform is provided? Each player will receive a uniform that includes a jersey with there name on it. Players are responsible for the care and upkeep of their uniforms throughout the season.
What happens if my child loses their uniform? If a uniform is lost or damaged, replacement fees will be charged to the player’s family. The replacement cost will be provided by the club.
Parent Responsibilities
How can parents stay informed? All communication will be sent through email and the TeamSnap app. Ensure your contact information is up to date to receive practice schedules, game announcements, and other important notifications.
Can parents volunteer? Yes! Parent involvement is key to the success of our program. We welcome volunteers for scorekeeping, timekeeping, snack coordination, and carpooling for away games. If you’re interested in volunteering, please let us know during registration or via email.
Code of Conduct
Player Expectations: All players are expected to show respect to their coaches, teammates, opponents, and referees. Good sportsmanship is mandatory, and players are expected to work hard, stay positive, and be a team player.
Parent Expectations: Parents are role models, and their behavior at games and practices sets the tone for the season. We ask all parents to cheer positively, support all players, and respect the decisions made by referees and coaches. No cussing, No yelling, and a good rule of thumb only coach up your child.
What happens if I or my child breaks the code of conduct?
Any breaches of the code of conduct, including disrespectful behavior or unsportsmanlike actions, will result in disciplinary actions. This could range from a warning to suspension from games or practices. Repeat offenses may lead to removal from the team. Same go for parents.
Health & Safety
What health precautions are in place?
Medical Clearance: Please notify us of any allergies or injuries/medical conditions a player may be suffering with as this will affect how we do certain activities.
Injury Prevention: Players will warm up before every session to help prevent injuries. If a player is injured during practice or a game, the coach must be notified immediately.
Flu or Sick Protocols: Please stay at home if you are sick or have the flu its better not to get the coaches or other players sick. If the child didn’t go to school because of an illness please do not bring them to an athletic event.
Travel
How will transportation be handled for away games? Parents are responsible for transporting their child to away games. If transportation is an issue, carpooling with other families is encouraged. The club will help coordinate rides when necessary.
Refund Policy
The Aviara Oaks Boys Basketball program has a no refund policy after the first week of the season. If a player withdraws within the first week, a partial refund may be available. However, after this period, no refunds will be issued, regardless of the reason for withdrawal. This policy ensures that the program can cover costs associated with team expenses, gym rentals, uniforms, and administrative fees. Please make sure to carefully review this policy and commit to the season before registering.
Tentative Dates and Times
Are practice and game schedules finalized?
All dates and times listed for practices, games, and other events are tentative and subject to change based on school site availability and unforeseen circumstances. While we strive to maintain a consistent schedule, facility conflicts or changes in school availability may lead to adjustments. Parents will be notified as soon as possible of any changes via TeamSnap or email.
Emergency Protocols
What happens in case of an emergency?
In case of a medical emergency during practices or games, the coaching staff will provide immediate first aid, and 911 will be called if necessary. Parents will be contacted immediately, so ensure contact information is up to date.
Game Day Etiquette
Arrival Time: Players should arrive at least 10 minutes before game time for warm-ups and preparation. This allows the coach to review strategies and the players to focus.
What to Bring: Each player should bring a water bottle and all necessary equipment (uniforms, shoes). Parents should refrain from bringing food or drinks into the gym, as only water is permitted.
Equipment Requirements
Does my child need any specific equipment?
Beyond the uniform provided, players should bring proper basketball shoes with good grip to prevent injury. It's also recommended to have a personal water bottle and optional items like ankle braces for added support.
Tournaments and Post-Season Play
Are there any post-season events?
Depending on team performance, there may be opportunities to participate in post-season tournaments. Participation is typically based on league standings.
Photography and Media Release
Can I take photos at games?
Parents are welcome to take photos of their children during games.Will team photos be taken?
Yes, we typically arrange for professional team photos during the season.Will photos or videos be shared on social media?
Occasionally, team highlights or photos may be shared on the club's social media pages.
Parent-Player Communication
How should players and parents communicate with coaches?
Coaches encourage open communication regarding any concerns or questions. Please contact coaches via TeamSnap or email, and avoid discussing issues during practices or games unless urgent. Also please avoid calling the coaches as we like to have all discussions in writing.
How are Coaches Selected
How are coaches selected for the basketball program?
Coaches are chosen based on their experience, qualifications, and commitment to developing youth athletes. Each coach is carefully vetted and must demonstrate strong leadership, basketball knowledge, and a passion for teaching sportsmanship and teamwork. Coaches typically have backgrounds in coaching youth sports or playing at a competitive level. Additionally, all coaches must pass background checks and adhere to the club’s policies regarding player safety and development.
Off-Season Opportunities
Are there off-season basketball activities?
We offer optional off-season camps and clinics to help players continue improving their skills year-round. Details will be provided toward the end of the season.
