A: Yes, we welcome athletes of all skill levels. Our programs are designed for both beginners and advanced players, with multiple divisions to ensure that every athlete is appropriately challenged and can progress at their own pace.

Q: What grades are eligible to join your league?
A: Our league is open to students in grades 1st through 8th. For summer sessions, participants should register based on the grade they will be entering in the upcoming school year.

Q: Are there different divisions for boys and girls?
A: Yes, we offer Girls Only and Co-ed divisions. Our Girls Only Basketball Divisions provide a fun and competitive environment for young female athletes to develop skills and teamwork. Our Boys/Co-ed Division is for all youth, offering a dynamic and inclusive basketball experience where players can showcase their skills and sportsmanship.

Q: What are basketball evaluations and how do they work?
A: Basketball evaluations are sessions where players demonstrate their skills to coaches for team placement. Participants perform drills like shooting, dribbling, and defense. These evaluations help coaches assess players' skills, attitudes, and potential contributions. Everyone will be placed on a team; there are no cuts. Please bring athletic attire, appropriate footwear, a water bottle, and a positive attitude. Evaluations include skill drills and scrimmages. Parents can drop off or attend, and each participant should only attend one clinic session.

Q: When and where are the evaluations held?
A: Evaluations will be held on September 28th at the Village Boys & Girls Club:

  • 1st-2nd Grade (Group A): 9:00am-10:00am

  • 1st-2nd Grade (Group B): 10:30am-11:30am

  • 3rd-4th Grade (Group A): 12:00pm-1:00pm

  • 3rd-4th Grade (Group B): 1:30pm-2:30pm

  • 5th-6th Grade (Group A): 3:00pm-4:00pm

  • 5th-6th Grade (Group B): 4:30pm-5:30pm

Q: When will we receive information about rosters and schedules?
A: On September 29th, you will receive an email with information about rosters and the practice/game schedule. A hard copy of the game schedule will be given out at your first practice.

Q: When do practices and games start?
A: Practices will start the following week after evaluations. The first game is scheduled for October 5th. Games and practices will be held at both the Village and Bressi Boys & Girls Clubs.

Q: How are jerseys handled?
A: Jerseys will be distributed during games and collected after each game for washing. This system helps ensure jerseys are cleaned and not lost.

Q: What is the game schedule?
A: Teams practice once a week, and games are played on Saturdays:

  • 1st-2nd Grade: Morning

  • 3rd-4th Grade: Afternoon

  • 5th-8th Grade: Afternoon/Evening

Playoffs will be held on November 16th.

Q: What are the general game rules?
A:

  • Games consist of two 20-minute halves with a running clock, except for the last 2 minutes, where the clock stops.

  • Halftime is 2 minutes long.

  • Each team gets 1 timeout per half; timeouts do not carry over.

  • Overtime is 2 minutes with a stopped clock, and each team has one timeout. If still tied after overtime, the game goes into sudden death, where the first team to score wins. In the 1st-2nd Beginner/Intermediate Division, shooting fouls do not end the game.

Q: What are the specific rules for different divisions?
A:

  • 1st-2nd Grade Beginner/Intermediate:

    • 8ft hoop

    • Traveling/double dribbling is loosely called

    • Defense can only steal the ball after crossing half court

    • No 3-second rule in the key

    • No fouling out

    • Shooting fouls count as one point and possession of the ball

  • 1st-2nd Grade Advanced:

    • 10ft hoop

    • All standard game violations are enforced

    • Pressing is allowed

  • 3rd-4th Grade Beginner/Intermediate:

    • 9ft hoop

    • All standard game violations are enforced

    • Defense can only steal the ball after crossing half court

  • 3rd-4th Grade Advanced:

    • 10ft hoop

    • All standard game violations are enforced

    • Full court press is allowed

  • 5th-6th and 7th-8th Grade Beginner/Intermediate:

    • 10ft hoop

    • All standard game violations are enforced

    • Full court press allowed only in the last 2 minutes of the game

  • 5th-6th and Advanced:

    • Normal college basketball rules apply

    • No shot clock

  • Q: What should participants expect on their first day?
    A: On the first day, participants should arrive in athletic attire and appropriate footwear. They will be introduced to their coaches and teammates, and begin their first practice or game. It’s a good opportunity to familiarize themselves with the gym and get excited for the season ahead.

    Q: Are there any health and safety guidelines?
    A: We prioritize the health and safety of our participants. Please ensure that any medical conditions or allergies are communicated to the coaches. Players should bring their own water bottles, and we follow general hygiene practices to maintain a clean environment. If any injuries occur, they will be addressed promptly.

    Q: What is your code of conduct?
    A: We expect all players to demonstrate good sportsmanship, respect for coaches, teammates, and opponents, and a positive attitude. Disruptive behavior or unsportsmanlike conduct will be addressed according to our code of conduct, which aims to foster a respectful and enjoyable environment for everyone.
